That actually sounds to me like the highest form of flattery Paul. They're just trying to get your goat because they know they can't beat that car in a drag race...that's all. Don't let them have the satisfaction of getting you down. Keep on diggin' you'll find the problem sooner or later.  Wink Did you call BA and send him you balancer link yet?

I haven't called Barry Allen and I think it would be hard for him to figure out over the phone . I'm hoping Randy has that BHJ damper in stock so I can move forward with my motor .

I'm stressed out with this problem already and to have those guys pull that Chevy crap really ticked me off . Their timing for those comments couldn't of been worse . I actually started thinking to just get that PP damper opened up to fit the crank properly , mounting the slicks and lining up with them at the track . One of these 2 guys is so out of touch with reality that even if I beat his 427 BBC by 10 car lengths , a year later he'd be saying he beat me by 10 . I've cooled off a bit now and have decided to get back to trying to find the vibration and not get sidetracked with this stupid distraction . I've still got more work to do organizing my garage and when it's done I'll be digging deeper into the motor .

oh ya and there should be NO REASON your car don't hook with the street radials on there unless they grease the track

I'm gonna put this Chevy crap behind me for now and move on . I'll be checking everything from runout to misfire but the engine is still coming apart because I've had so many issues with that PP damper . I'll even have to find another 2 groove 4 bolt crank pulley now for the BHJ damper because I had to open it up to fit the PP damper .

The problems I've had with the PP damper

1) doesn't fit the crank (broken bolt in crank as a result)

2) timing mark off by 8 deg (have to add 8 deg to total timing)

3) didn't fit my stock 4 bolt 2 groove pulley (opened stock pulley to fit)

4) might also have a runout problem but not sure yet (see video above)

Norm , your buddies Mustang hooks nice . I've come to the conclusion that the track was the problem with my tire spin . It hooked way better on the street at 4500 rpm on the transbrake  Shocked Shocked Shocked . I can just imagine what it'll be like with a set of hot M/T 28-11.5-15 slicks on it .

I'm going back out to the garage to do some more cleaning and organizing .

after running the radials this past weekend he told me yesterday that he'll never run a slick again

and the word at the track is the Goodyear's are even better than the mickey's.....we'll see next weekend as one of the 8.50 guys are going to try them.

good luck with the vibration Buddy hope its something that can be fixed relatively cheap

Norm , I've heard about the new Goodyear radials but don't know anyone that's tried them .

I got a call from Randy at P.A.S about the BHJ damper today . He doesn't have any in stock . It'll take at least a month before I get it  Sad Sad Sad  . At this point it looks like that PP damper is gonna have to go back on for now (it'll be honed to fit properly first) and I'll tear the motor down at the end of the season . I don't think it'll cause any breakage because it's not a real bad vibration like I had last year , it's just annoying .

PP specifically says NOT to hone to fit. The interference fit and the bolt torque together locate and secure the damper.

Steve , There's no way I'm gonna even attempt to put the PP damper back on without opening it up . I've already broken a bolt off in the crank once and I sure don't want to take any chances of it happening again . If I remember correctly , the mounting area of the damper was .007 smaller than the crank . The pics of the bent tool should give you a good idea of how tight it was . BHJ says there should be .001 - .0015 max . My stock damper goes on nice and easy like it should and I can feel it bottom out when it's fully installed on the crank . If they made the damper the right size , I wouldn't even be talking about this .

I agree with you. Simply passing on their warning. Personally- I wouldn't put that POS back on again. I also understand, but have no real data to confirm, that the PP damper is an adapted Chevy snout piece.

Steve , If I could get a BHJ damper by this weekend , I'd be tearing the motor down right now . If I wait for over a month for a new BHJ damper and take the motor apart when I get it I'll be missing some shows and a bunch of cruisenights so I'm gonna put the PP back on for now and cut it in half when the seasons over .

Paul, I wouldn't think twice about opening up the ID of your PP damper .007'' doesn't sound like much but is way too much of an interferance fit .001-.002'' is more like it. If it was me I'd take it to your machinist and have him open it up. If you have any problems I can do it for you.

Keep the r's down so you don't damage the snout any more. If you are tearing down bearing wear isn't going to be a real consideration. Wink I understand wanting to enjoy it as long as possible before 'putting her in the hangar' for repairs.
