New here, found 72 Gremlin X V8 40K original miles
03/10/08 at 20:38:47

Hello All,

New here.  Found this car by accident.  I have always like the AMC brand and yes in some odd way the Gremlin.  Today I like it even more.

Trying to post a picture but I keep getting the message "If you had an attachment in your post, you will need to reselect the attachment again in the browse box for security reasons."  The file is only 63KB so it should fit.  Can someone tell me how to post pictures?

I have just come to a sale/purchase agreement with the original owner (seller) for this baby.

One Owner Car
1972 Gremlin X
Original Factory V8 304 CI partial VIN:A2E465H1***** thus a home town built car and not Brampton, Ontario.
Original 3 Speed Manual
Original 40000 Miles
Power steering it has but, no power breaks and no AC
Original bill of sale with car
Original Butterscotch Gold Color
Car has been resprayed once in 1979 due to paint fading
Never winter driven or rusted still to this day, no accidents (in 1973 when the car was just under 1 year old the driver fender was replaced with a NOS unit, bolt off and bolt on plus painted, at an AMC dealer due to a dent.  The owner wanted it replaced not repaired since that car was new.)
Proper planned dry storage just after respray from 1980 till 1999

Back on the road by original owner since 1999 after being pulled out of 20 years of storage and a refresh of the mechanicals such as consumables, break Master and other components, clutch master, and tires and battery changed last year.  It has done just over 1000 miles since 1999 while still with the original owner.  I get the car at the end of this month after the weather clears up as she is still in storage for the winter.

Only minor flaws are the passenger front seat has separated at a seam.  I am told the material does not need t be replaced and it can be repaired with no visible effect afterwards.  Other issues are the fuel gage needs repair and there is a very small oil leek from oil pan at the gasket.   Both will be repaired by the original owner before I pick up the car at end of month or early in April.

She was a accidental find and a very pleasant surprise.  Now I am learning that she may be a little rare as well in complete 100% stock form and rust free.

I hope the pictures work as this is my first post.  Picture is form this past Jan at its storage place.

Best regards

Max G

72, rust free, V8, go ahead and tell me it was cheap too !  Grin I'm SO jealous!  Smiley It's perfect. My first Gremlin, which was my first car, was also that colour. I hated it until I put the black stripes on it, then it was COOL! NIce find.

seems like I heard this stroy somewhere else. Must have been you making the rounds! Cheesy

It has a lot more impact to see the car even if you paid top loonie that's a great find!

I'd like to get whacked with that lucky stick. I guess all that snow helps keep mileage low?

Hello,

I had posted some questions about the car on gremlinx.com after finding the car and coming to a fair deal with the owner wanting to learn if my price was fair since I knew nothing about the car before hand with the exception that I always liked them and found them cool.

It will actually end up costing me a little more as the seller almost decided not to sell it wanting a little more than what we agreed on because he had the idea of bringing it to his shop to fix the fuel gauge and change the oil pan gasket.  Lets just say a engine shampoo, oil pan gasket, head gasket, first time of a reface of the fly wheel, first time new clutch, all new fluids and oils from A to Z and a few other little things later he wanted to keep it since the repairs had cost him more than he planed.  I figured my price was still good and I would have had to do those things anyway so I offered up to pay for the repair invoice that he faxed me.

Still a great deal and now really a Gremlin that needs not a single thing in repair or restoration.

As for the snow keeping the miles low, I guess that could help since some car owners here who choose not to use their vehicles in the winter months have to store them about 6 to 8 months out of the year.

Regards

Max,
I thought that it was on Gremlin X, but I wasn't 100%. I had a scare when you told the story about almost losing it. I thought that maybe after having the car back in tip-top shape he changed his mind.

It's cool that you seem so interested, and a beautiful car. I've never seen that shade of paint on an AMC, but it looks good on Dodge Darts. Very very nice with the black stripes. Those door panels are a revalation! Like new in the pictures.

I think that would be a better magazine car than many I've seen. I think Auto week would run a story on it. Every week they have a story about a survivor on the "escape roads" page. Look up auto week on the web if you'd like to mention the car as a possibility.

Thanks for post those pictures, and good luck!
 Eric
