Alright, I've posted this before (on the last version of this site), but it looks like we need some more stories here.
I've got a 455 68 Firebird - nice street motor, turbo 400, and 333 rear. My buddy bought a "$80k" Mercedes that I kept having to hear about- and to top it off his 10 year old kid is talking smack about muscle cars because his dads car cost so much. The Bird is still in the works (old crusty rear tires, limited interior, and in primer), and I take it out for a cruise to blow some cobwebs out. I end up in this traffic circle, and the next entrance is from a grocery store. I look up and here's Danny entering the circle in the Mercedes. We both spot each other, and we both have huge grins on our faces cause we know what's about to happen. We roll out of the circle, and there's a short stretch of road before a stop light, then a nice long straight stretch of road. Exiting the circle we get up to about 25 mph and we even up, he nods, we punch it - I'm instantly two cars out on him and gaining. The light turns red in front of us. He turns on traction control, light turns green, I step on the gas, my tires go up in smoke and Danny's thru the intersection. I ease up on the pedal, but continue to spin thru the intersection and beyond, and Danny's moving out. Finally the Bird gains traction, and here I come. I run down the Mercedes, and pass him like he's standing still. He pulls up to me at the next stop light and tells me that he let off as I passed him - he's doing 110mph.
Okay, so I have no speedo/odo in the Firebird. I take my little commuter car out the next day and measure out approx. where I passed him, and it's about 1/4mile.
I show up at his shop a few days later, and he's talking trash about how he blew me away.
Previous comments have been "take it to the track" and the likes, but that will never happen.
You guys call it - was this a win or a loss for the Pontiac?
