Trying to pull the axle shafts out of my 73 Jav, having a hard time. got the wheels off , brakes off and cant get it out. Are there clips in the diff or do i need a puller?  Any help would be great.

You did unbolt the backing plates, right?  No clips that I remember inside.  I have a slide hammer that has an attachment for pulling hubs and axles, so mine always come out pretty easy, but it should come out.

You need to remove the four retainer plate bolts and then remove with a slide hammer, no clips on the inside.

What I do is turn the brake drum backwards and put all 5 lugs on part way.  Use the brake drum as a slide hammer, usually a couple of quick jerks and the axle will slide out.
