AMC 20 axle shaft removal (Read 1017 times)

Oneslowjav AMCer Posts: 21 Gender: Lynnwood, WA	AMC 20 axle shaft removal 04/06/11 at 00:53:14 Trying to pull the axle shafts out of my 73 Jav, having a hard time. got the wheels off , brakes off and cant get it out. Are there clips in the diff or do i need a puller? Any help would be great. Thanks

No clips that I remember inside. I have a slide hammer that has an attachment for pulling hubs and axles, so mine always come out pretty easy, but it should come out. ralfy

alamo889 AMCer American Motors Corporation Posts: 20 Gender: El Cajon, CA	Re: AMC 20 axle shaft removal Reply #2 - 04/06/11 at 01:58:13 You need to remove the four retainer plate bolts and then remove with a slide hammer, no clips on the inside.

Use the brake drum as a slide hammer, usually a couple of quick jerks and the axle will slide out. Bob tufcj
