Pretty sure the factory tach is just in-line on the yellow feed from the ignition switch to the coil + terminal. The factory tach harness was just an add in that looped the feed from the engine back through the tach and out again. Works fine with my HEI setup this way, not sure about MSD though. I deleated a whole bunch of wiring from mine.

I have taken out a lot of wires as well. I finally found a wire to power the MSD, it doesn't show up on any wiring diagram. Solved the radiator hose problem on the weekend ( Commodore rad), a little more wiring and we will give it a start. How is yours running now?

Not much to do now, but I'm off to Queensland for a week with the family, then we're back for a week and then off to Hong Kong for a few days with the babies, while the two older ones stay with Grandma. Hopefully it'll be back up and running the week between.
 
I've basically rewired the whole front of the car, partially to sort out the a/c and partially to make it suit the new battery, alternator and non-solenoid starter motor. It's coming together quite nicely and I've learnt quite a bit. Sure helps having the wiring diagram, the rest I just made up!  
 
There's a cruise up to Yanchep on the 13th of November (I think?), maybe we should all aim for that and have some AMC contingent up there for a change.

Congrats on getting the engine up and running Ian, can't wait to have a look in the flesh.
 
I'm assuming we are talking about the GoodFellas run on the 13th of Nov? Seems like a busy day for car stuff, but that does sound like a good outing, have pencilled it in.

Back on its wheels and running as sweet as ever. No fluid leaks and all the electrickery bits appear to be working. Didn't seem to get any warmer than usual, even with three layers of radiators to go through. I think my transmission is thankful after years of putting up with a below par oil cooler.
 
Yes, the run is the GOODFELLAS Yanchep Run. Always a top day out with lots of prizes and a great place to take the family. Looking forward to it.

Still no oil pump, put a used pump I had in, that works ok. Wont be able to make the run on the weekend,I will be pulling the trans out, problem with front clutch apparently. Oh well, I need the practice. Motor sounds strong.

Shame Kathy's is still off the road Ian, maybe bring it to the Armadale show in a couple if weeks then, at least it's close to home for me.
 
I brought a new oil filler cap for mine the other day, so that should make it faster. Actually, I hope it still goes, hasn't been started since the trip to the drags.
