What are these square holes for? (Read 1026 times)

Brootal Site Moderator American Motors Corporation Posts: 695 Gender: Perth, Western Australia	What are these square holes for? 10/13/11 at 18:37:28 Was just curious if there is a reason these holes are in my radiator support panel? I'm thinking they might be handy to mount the dryer for the a/c system. Just wondering if they take some kind of special nut and bolt. Any ideas???

Reply #1 - 10/14/11 at 06:48:32 Yep these holes are for a smooth cap bolt, so there is a smooth cap and there before the thread there is the square peace to be able to tighten it from the nut side... Reply #7 - 10/16/11 at 11:16:07 I beleive those hole held caged nuts to bolt the radiator in. the "cage" part keeps the nuts from turning when the bolt is installed. as cars get older and taken apart a few times and rust, the cages let go and fall off, then usually get replaced with regular nuts and washers.

My radiator has always been held in with the same four bolts. You can see one to the right of the cage nut holes. Would they be the same type of cage nuts that hold the battery tray in? I've relocated my battery to the trunk and don't need them any more. Could be a neat way to 'recycle' those parts.
