Brewer head question
05/07/12 at 15:39:15

I am woefully behind in getting my race motor ready and have a quick (and possibly dumb) question.  I'm running older Brewer heads with a simple tunnel ram intake that has no coolant passages.  The water ports on the Brewer heads are at the bottom of the casting for some reason...  Is there any reason why I couldn't run an external crossover at a height near that of the top of the head in order to make sure I have efficient cooling?  Any other suggestions (other than modifying the intake)?

Tom,
My engine has water going in the front of the block and out the back top side of the block.  Then in the back of the heads and out the front.  Nothing through the intake or head gasket and it works fine.
On the iron engine the block was completely filled so the water went in the front of the heads and out the back through a common tube/plenum.  No problem with that either.

I think you will not have any problems with what you described.
