I brought the car home over the weekend. Car was as described, it's a 40 year old car with 100k on it, it needs some work.
 
  I like the stance with the 15's on the rear and the air shocks pumped up.
 
  Of the pictures I saw before I bought it, the pictures of the top had me a little concerned, I saw what looked like vinyl top seams opening up, but in odd spots. I was wondering what was going on there. When I started picking at them, I found that someone had removed the vinyl top, ground it down to bare metal, and covered the top with sheets of fiberglass. I've got to say, I'll bet at the time it looked real nice, I was kind of impressed.

 Then I started digging further.

Yeah, It's pretty bad. Best thing would be to get a replacement roof. Anybody got one? If I have to, I can fix this, but I'm not looking forward to it.
 
 I was hoping I might get it driveable so as to go to a couple of cruise nights, but I've got other work in front of it. I might make that goal this fall, otherwise I'll have it driveable for next year. My 73 AMX needs to be finished before it gets a full rebuild.

God I hate rust! Lived with it most of my life. N.H. born and raised. You really have your work cut out for you. Good Luck!  If all else fails, (suggestion) build a custom roadster out of it! Seriosly Good luck. Keep the pics coming.

People forget how big and how many different climates CA really is. We basically have most of the climates from around the country jammed into one state. So it really depends on what part of the state your in. Stuff on the coast will rust from salty air, cars that live in the Sierra Nevada mountains can get it from the roads, mostly the SoCal and valley cars stay relatively rust free. CA car doesn't necessarily mean no rust.

Now you know why it was fiberglassed up! As long as you treat that rust so it's sealed off you can 'glass it again. Looks like they didn't treat or seal it first. Another hint -- get marine grade epoxy fiberglass instead of the polyester material sold for auto work. The marine stuff is a LOT tougher and weather resistant, but correspondingly more expensive. Would be worth it for something as exposed to the weather as a roof though. Something like this: http://www.mertons.com/Epoxy/epoxy_resins/about.html

I've seen a few advertised on the internet lately, but they were repainted and you can't tell what's under the shiney paint. This car was repainted at one time as well, but long enough ago that if there was something wrong underneath there'd be some evidence. I'd say this car is far from being a rot box.
